Certified Organic produce is grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers, or GMOs, with a focus on environmentally sustainable practices.
Why Choose Organic?
Organic produce contains higher levels of vitamins, essential minerals and antioxidants, and is not covered in a cocktail of chemicals and pesticides. The average non-organically grown apple may have up to 10 toxins on its skin, even after rinsing, and many of these pesticides approved for use were registered before research which has now linked these chemicals to cancer and other diseases.
Non organic fruit and vegetables are sprayed with a variety of chemicals which allow them to grow quickly even in inferior soil and climate conditions. This means that non organic fruit and vegetables do not have enough time to mature naturally and develop their full nutritional potential, and often, non organic fruit and vegetables are given preservatives to increase their shelf life but unfortunately preservatives are not very good at increasing the life of the nutritional content of the fruit or vegetable. Have you ever wondered about why non organic apples are so shiny? The wax or shellac coating allows older apples to look fresher for so much longer! Fresh organic produce is grown locally, in season, and spends much less time in storage.
Research also suggests that children are far more vulnerable and susceptible to pesticide toxicity, receiving four times an adult's exposure to pesticides in food, especially fruit and vegetables, due to their lesser body weight and need for higher energy foods.
Organic farming releases less greenhouse gases than non-organic farming, helping to prevent soil erosion and reduces techniques to reduce water usage, as well promoting biodiversity. Organic farming uses sustainability practices to ensure the protection of the environment for future generations.
